Between October 2022 and January 2023, there were 10 biting incidents, including one in which a female officer required on-site medical treatment after being bitten by the two-year-old German Shepherd.

The two-year-old German Shepherd attacked U.S. Secret Service members 10 times between October 2022 and January 2023.
A spokesperson for First Lady Jill Biden confirmed that Commander is not currently on the White House campus “while next steps are evaluated.”
Elizabeth Alexander, the First Lady’s communications director, emphasized that the Bidens deeply value the safety of their staff and those who protect them every day.
“They remain grateful for the patience and support of the U.S. Secret Service and all involved, as they continue to work through solutions,” she said.
In a previous statement, Alexander noted that the White House can be a “stressful environment for pets.”
It remains unclear where Commander—who was a gift to President Biden from his brother, James, in December 2021—is currently staying.

The two-year-old German shepherd has been involved in several biting incidents
Commander was last seen on Saturday on an upper balcony of the White House.
The statement followed shortly after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about a new allegation that the dog had bitten a member of the White House staff.
Jean-Pierre referred the inquiry to the First Lady’s office, which clarified that Commander had been playing with Dale Haney, the White House head groundskeeper, and that no skin was broken during the interaction.
The incident was captured in a photograph by a tourist, who shared the image with a news organization, which then published it online.
