Crocodiles and alligators are both large reptiles from the same family (Crocodylidae), but they have some key differences:

- Crocodile: Both upper and lower teeth are visible when the mouth is closed, especially the large 4th tooth on the lower jaw.
- Habitat:
- Alligator: Prefer freshwater (rivers, lakes, swamps). Found mostly in the southeastern U.S. and China.
- Crocodile: Can live in both freshwater and saltwater. Found in Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia, and parts of the Americas.
- Color:
- Alligator: Darker, usually blackish-grey.
- Crocodile: Lighter, olive green or brownish.
- Behavior:
- Alligator: Generally more docile toward humans.
- Crocodile: Usually more aggressive and territorial.
